Juror's Statement

Being a juror is both a wonderful opportunity and a daunting task. This year I had the privilege of selecting from among the largest number of submissions ever for the annual Art and Earth Juried Exhibition. As a curator, this provides me a fantastic opportunity to see what artists of the region are doing now--what inspires you, which mediums you're drawn to, what methods you've develop to articulate your vision. It is an incredible challenge to craft such unique and diverse artworks into a single exhibition. My goal was to make the best show possible, which means considering how individual pieces work together, and often selecting multiple works by the same artist to create pockets of context. I gravitated towards work that is experimental in some way, unresolved perhaps, but compelling in a way that inspires me want to explore the artist's vision further.

Congratulations to all of you on your perseverance and dedication, and thank you for sharing your work with me.
