Fifth Annual
Art and Earth Juried Exhibition



The exhibit, which is produced by the Berkeley Arts Council, will have the theme “Art and Earth: My Art – My World” and entries should reflect the artist’s view of nature, the environment, or reflect an Earth Day related theme. Any medium or technique is acceptable.


The juror for the 2015 exhibit will be Margaret Winslow, Associate Curator for Contemporary Art at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington, Delaware.

Margaret Winslow currently lives and works in Wilmington, Delaware where she is the Associate Curator for Contemporary Art at the Delaware Art Museum. Margaret has curated for the Neuberger Museum of Art and the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts and assisted with exhibits for the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. In 2009, she participated in Maryland Art Place’s 7th Annual Curators’ Incubator with her exhibition,Soft Space: Architecture in Contemporary Art, and in 2010, she attended Independent Curators International’s Curatorial Intensive in New York. Her recent exhibitions at the Museum include Perception/Deception: Illusion in Contemporary Art, Anne Truitt: Luminosities, and Once Upon a Time in Delaware: In Quest of the Perfect Book, the most recent installment of Nina Katchadourian’s Sorted Books project. Margaret holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of Mary Washington and an M.A. in Modern and Contemporary Art, Theory, and Criticism from SUNY Purchase College.    

Entry Fee

The entry fee for the exhibit is $25 for the first two works. Artists may submit one or two additional works for $10 each for a maximum of four works.

Awards Best in Show $250. Minumum prize fund $600.


The exhibition is open to all visual artists over the age of 18 in all media. Entries must be original works of art that have been completed within the last three (3) years, and have not been previously exhibited in The Berkeley Art Works. See “Accepted Work” below for size and other specifications.

This year we are using an online entry system. This will save you the trouble and expense of CDs, packaging and postage.

All entries should be submitted digitally using the online entry system. If you are unable to access the sysetem, please email us at or call 304-260-7277 for alternative instructions.

Images must be in jpeg format. On each jpeg filename, list the artist’s last name, title of work, entry number, (either #1, #2, #3 or #4 if applicable), and dimensions as WxHxD.  (example: jones_winter_No1_18x24x2.jpg).

Images should be 1200 pixels on the long dimension with the short dimension proportional. Resolution should be set at 72 ppi and the file should be saved at a quality setting of high. (A setting of 8 out of 10 or 80%).

The entry notification announcing the juror’s decision will be sent by email on or about March 14. Accepted artists will also be listed on our web site, by March 14, 2015.

Accepted Work

If accepted, the original works must be ready for hanging and must not exceed 48” in width, including frame. Three-dimensional works, must not exceed 72" in height and 36” in any direction. Three dimensional work must be free-standing. Paintings and works on paper must be suitably framed. All entries to be hung must be equipped with wire, ready for hanging. No substitution, exchange, modification, or withdrawal of works is permitted after they are accepted for the exhibition.

Delivery and Return of Accepted Work

The following are the general guidelines. Accepted artists will be povided additional details upon acceptance notification.

All work must arrive between March 23 and March 29, 2015. For hand delivered work, The Berkeley Art Works hours are Thu (Mar 26) 12-5, Fri (Mar 27) 12-8, Sat (Mar 28) 12-5, Sun (Mar 29) 12-3.

Shipping: The Berkeley Art Works does not receive US Mail at the gallery address. Do not ship to the gallery address by US Postal Service. Please use UPS or FEDEX.
If you are unable to use UPS or FEDEX to ship your work, please email us for instructions.

Work must be shipped prepaid to The Berkeley Art Works in sturdy, reusable packing. (Please no styrofoam peanuts!) Plexiglass must be used on all shipped works, no glass. For return shipping a prepaid shipping label must be included. Please email us with tracking information at

Shipped works must arrive between March 23 and March 27, 2015 for inclusion in the exhibit.


The Berkeley Arts Council will retain a 30% commission on all sales. Works may not be removed during the exhibition. Enter sales price in the space provided in the online form. If not for sale, enter "NFS".

Insurance/ Liability

Although the Berkeley Arts Council will take reasonable measures to ensure the safety of the entries in the gallery, the BAC is not responsible for loss of or damage to the artwork, and the artist is responsible for his/her own insurance if desired.
