Second Annual Art and Earth Celebration
Juried Art Exhibition, April 20 – May 20, 2012

2011 Award of Merit: "Don't Go, Go Away" by Matthew Derezinski

The Berkeley Arts Council and The Arts Centre in Martinsburg, West Virginia are again joining forces to bring a juried art exhibit to The Arts Centre gallery in Martinsburg. The exhibit will be held April 20 – May 20, 2012 in connection with Earth Day observances in Martinsburg, WV.

Theme

The exhibit, which will be produced by the Berkeley Arts Council, will have the theme “Art and Earth: My Art – My World” and entries should reflect the artist’s view of nature, the environment, or reflect an Earth Day related theme.

Juror

The Juror for the exhibit will be Laura Amussen, Director of Exhibitions and Art Collection Coordinator at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.

Entries

The exhibition is open to all visual artists over the age of 18 in all media. Entries must be original works of art that have been completed within the last three (3) years, and have not been previously exhibited in The Arts Centre Gallery.
All entries must be submitted digitally in jpeg format on a CD. On each jpeg file, list the artist’s last name, title of work, entry number, (either #1 or #2), and dimensions as WxHxD.  (example: jones_winter_No1_18x24x2.jpg).
Images should be 1200 pixels on the long dimension with the short dimension proportional. Resolution should be set at 150 ppi and the file should be saved at a quality setting of 8. These files should be copied onto one CD. The label area on the CD should list the artist’s name, title, entry number, medium, and dimensions of each entered work.
CDs of accepted work will be retained for the Berkeley Arts Council archives.  CDs of unaccepted work will not be returned unless you send a self-addressed stamped envelope specifically for that purpose.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: POSTMARKED FEBRUARY 20, 2012

Notification

The entry notification announcing the juror’s decision will be mailed on or about March 20. Accepted artists will also be listed on our web site, www.berkeleyartswv.org by March 20 2012.

Accepted Work

If accepted, the original works must be ready for hanging and must not exceed 48” in width, including frame, with the exception of three-dimensional works, which must not exceed 48” in any direction. Paintings and works on paper must be suitably framed. All entries to be hung must be equipped with wire, ready for hanging. No substitution, exchange, modification, or withdrawal of works is permitted after they are accepted for the exhibition.

Delivery and Return of Accepted Work

Works accepted for the exhibition are to be hand delivered or shipped to:

All work must arrive between April 9 and April 16, 2012. The Arts Centre hours will be included in the notification. Artists picking up their work at the conclusion of the show must do so between May 21 and May 24, 2012.
Shipping: Work must be shipped prepaid to The Arts Centre in sturdy, reusable packing. Plexiglass must be used on all shipped works, no glass. Please do not use Styrofoam shipping “peanuts.” For return shipping A check, credit card information or prepaid shipping label must be included.
Shipped works must arrive between April 9 and April 16, 2012 for inclusion in the exhibit.

Sales

The Arts Centre will retain a 30% commission on all sales. Works may not be removed during the exhibition.

Insurance/ Liability

The Arts Centre will insure all accepted works during the exhibition period for the amount of the listed retail price minus the 30% commission. Insurance during shipping to and from The Arts Centre is the responsibility of the artist. Unless otherwise stated in writing, permission to photograph work or use submitted photographs for publicity will be presumed. Submission of work to the exhibition will constitute an agreement to comply with the rules, conditions, and requirements here set forth.

  2. Notification mailed & acceptance posted by: March 20.
  3. Delivery & shipment of accepted works of art to The Arts Centre between April 9 and April 16.
  4. Exhibition: April 20 – May 20.
  5. Opening reception, Friday April 8, 5-8pm.
  6. Pick up Work:  Monday, May 21 – Thursday, May 24

The exhibit was on display at The Arts Centre, 300 West King Street in Martinsburg, WV from April 8 through May 1, 2011.

The Berkeley Arts Council collaborated with The Arts Centre in Martinsburg, WV to produce this exhibit with the theme “Art and Earth: My Art – My World” as part of the city-wide "Art and Earth Celebration" that includes the "Art and Earth Festival produced by ArtBerkeley at War Memorial Park in Martinsburg.

The Juror for the exhibit was Susan Bloom, Professor and Chair of the Art and Art History Department of McDaniels College in Westminster, Maryland. Ms Bloom is an accomplished teacher, artist, photographer and author.
